About The Crayola Light Designer

The Crayola Light Designer could be a considered a 21st century version of the old Light Bright toys. Instead of inserting colored pegs to make a design, children can now use a wireless stylus on a digitalized screen and even create moving images with the designs they have created. Is this high tech drawing pad a nice alternative for kids? Read on to see what other parents and grandparents thought about their purchase of the Crayola Light Designer.

Key Features of the Crayola Light Designer

  • 4 D batteries required for drawing base
  • 2 AAA batteries required for stylus
  • Drawings can be saved and/or animated
  • Includes skill building games.

Should You Buy the Crayola Light Designer?

The product write-up and instructions clearly state that the Crayola Light Designer makes a noise while it is turned on. None of the children seemed to mind the noise but quite of a few of the adults found it moderately to extremely annoying. Since they toy is made for kids, if they do not seem to mind, then there is really no harm in a noise making toy. As long as your child is content, they can play with this toy in their room or even outside.

One thing that does need to be noted is that there is a safety switch on the bottom of the toy. If the Crayola light designer is not on a flat surface, or tips over, it will turn off. This can easily be fixed by taping the button down.

Battery usage is also a big problem when you need six batteries in two different sizes in order for the Crayola Light Designer to function. There is a separate AC power adapter made specifically for Crayola toys and for a $15 investment, you will definitely save that in batteries over the course of the toy’s life.

The Crayola Light Designer is said to be made for children ages six to 15, but that is a little bit of a stretch. Most parents claim that it is perfect for ages four to nine; at age 10, children are more into video games and other electronic devices.

Younger children really enjoyed the games that come included on the Crayola Light Designer and parents enjoyed helping their children learn to animate their drawings. If you can stand a little whirring noise, the Crayola Light designer is an entertaining gift for any aspiring artist.

What Some Parents Have Commented About The Crayola Light Designer

KTM Mom,

My daughter is 6 years old and very artistic so we always like to test new products that allow her to explore her talent. This Crayola light designer is perfect for that. You can change your colors with a click of your pen and can draw anywhere on the dome. Click your pen again and set your drawings in motion, draw something really cool and save it for later display. Hit the reset button and start over, if you want a change of pace you can also play a game. My kids both use a ton of paper for drawing so hopefully this will become a fun alternative. However it does require 4D and 2AAA batteries and no they are not included, so hopefully they last. Yes the toy makes noise it reminds me of a fan however it doesn’t bother me as I simply tune it out. Worst case your child can always play with it in their room with the door closed. Just remember you are buying it for them not you, this is a cool crayola product and its worth it. I can see this getting a lot of use in this house for years to come.

Sweet Kawaii,

This is a great toy. It saves paper from going into the land fill. I also like how it has games and other features like games for them to play. This is a great toy for instilling creativity in your child. They will most likely be thrilled to see their works of art come to life with the animate feature.

Tdr,

This toy is perfect for kids that like drawing, painting, and creating things in general. Yeah it can be a bit noisy, but I don’t think kids really care about that. The pen works great, kids can choose the colors you want to use and save their favorite drawings. Thumbs up Crayola!
