In short, Smokey is a toy firetruck with a difference. When he’s not talking or singing, he looks just like any other firetruck, and even has real tires. But when he comes to life, your child can check out his parts that move, his eyes flash, and he even has a whole personality of his own. One of the best things about Smokey is how realistic his movements are – he really does come to life!
Aside from the talking and the singing (which, in themselves, are great modes of entertainment for kids), there’s plenty for kids to do with the truck themselves. They can set Smokey up to blast out different colored balls from his water cannon, to put out fires around town together (which is a good way to encourage teamwork), or use the levers to change the way Smokey stands.
It’s clear that Mattel have put a huge deal of thought into this product to make it much more than your classic truck toy. It’s part truck, part robot. This will always impress kids, and keep them occupied thanks to the fact that there are more than 95 different sounds included. If your child loved the other trucks from this range, they’re bound to love this too. It’s recommended for kids aged 3 and above.
The downside is the fact that Smokey can be pretty loud, which may not be welcomed by some parents. He also uses four C-batteries: although they’re included, you’ll need to replace them when you get Smokey home. Some parents have also complained that the directions provided weren’t detailed enough in teaching kids and parents alike how to set Smokey up and how to make the most out of all of his features.

Smokey is awesome! Funny toy with bunch of different options. My son is too young for it now although he likes the truck anyway (as a new toy, very interested in details and lights-just have to watch out for small parts/chocking hazard). My friends came over and their kids loved it (2 year old boy, and 4 and 5 year old girls). It’s not very easy to switch the mode for a kid, but there is so many options and truck is always “busy”, so it kept them playing for long time. I can see that Smokey will be great for interactive playtime with my son even under recommended 3 years and up, he can catch some phrases, dance, sing etc with it.

Folks, this toy is awesome. I bought it for my great nephew. Once I discovered to pull the plastic pin and remove the plastic covering one of the battery contacts, it was up an runnning and can manuever the toy easily between it’s two positions. The instructions never told me to remove the plastic pin (ladies, it looks like a giant sewing needle)and to remove the clear plastic that was covering one of the battery contacts. I wonder how many people sent it back because of those issues, not knowing. I hope this helps!!

My grandson is four and he already had two of the trucks in this series. He was more than a little pleased to get this one which has become his favorite of all. Don’t let the name *Matchbox* fool you — this toy truck is over a foot long. They should probably change the product name so that people who are shopping online know that this is a bigger truck — I’ll bet they’re missing lots of sales because of this oversight. The specific dimensions are stated on the Amazon product page. As for durability, this is a high-quality product — It’s going to last a long time and it’s already seeing lots of use. Highly recommended
